Empathy

Dancers: 2- Original Cast: Tsubasa Nishioka, Richard Sayama

Recognizing the upbringing through a traditional masculine principle, I was taught and engrained to not rely on others and carry the burden of my loved ones. Empathy aims to disentangle the concrete notion of independence through the vulnerability shared between two male-identifying dancers.

This piece premiered in Chiba Japan and later, Arts on Site and The Tank in New York.

TRT: 7:25

Do you feel that life gets faster as you get older? This is due to the Time Unit Paradox. The human brain measures time by the amount of recorded new experiences. Thus, the younger you are, the more likely you are experiencing something for the the first time. Vice versa, as you grow older, less experiences are original and memorable. Miles per Year encourages viewers to find value and newness even in the mundane recurring moments of adulthood.
