Artist Bio
Originally from Honolulu, Hawai’i, Richard Sayama graduated early from Marymount Manhattan College with a double major in B.F.A Modern Dance and B.A Business Arts & Management.
Upon graduation, Sayama performed with companies such as Limón Dance Company, Jon Lehrer Dance Company, and H.T Chen & Dancers where he toured domestically and internationally for over 5 years to countries such as Japan, Austria, Germany, Scotland, and Colombia. He finished seasons with Limón2, Jon Lehrer Dance Company, Alison Cook Beatty Dance, iKADA Contemporary Dance Company, H.T Chen & Dancers, and many more. Sayama currently dances for LaneCoArts, Valerie Green Dance Entropy, Obremski/Works, One Day Dance, and General Mischief Dance Theatre. Sayama had the privilege of performing as a guest artist with the Limón Dance Company in the 2023 Fall for Dance Festival at New York City Center, and the Joyce Theater in the Limón’s 2024 Fall Season.
Sayama’s choreography has been showcased at SoloDuo Dance Festival, Steffi Nossen Choreography Showcase, and was featured in Tokyo, Japan. He is currently a resident choreographer at Feathers Dance Company. In addition, Sayama is a returning choreographer at Bayonne High School where he creates new work in collaboration with students every semester.
To further his practice of performing, teaching and choreographing, he is a current Graduate student at Hunter College for M.F.A in Dance. In 2026, he started teaching as an Adjunct Professor at Hunter College. In addition, he teaches weekly at Rock Dance Center in New Jersey.
